Establishment of Cryptocurrency Investigation Unit at Thane Cyber Police Station In view of the recent surge in cyber crimes, under the initiative of the Hon’ble Commissioner of Police, Thane City, dedicated Cyber Cells have already been established at every police station within the Thane Police Commissionerate to facilitate the investigation of such offences. Recognizing the need for technical expertise in handling cyber crime cases, the Commissioner has also appointed two cyber experts at each police station. During the investigation of cyber crimes, it has been observed that criminals are increasingly misappropriating stolen amounts through cryptocurrency transactions, making it difficult to trace and recover the misappropriated funds. Considering the challenges posed by cryptocurrency in cyber crime investigations, the Hon’ble Commissioner of Police, Thane City, has taken a pioneering step by establishing a “Cryptocurrency Investigation Unit” at the Cyber Police Station on 24/09/2025. This newly inaugurated unit consists of police officers and personnel from the Economic Offences Wing and Cyber Police Station who have specialized expertise in cryptocurrency-related matters. These officers will: Provide training to all investigating officers in police stations under the Commissionerate on cryptocurrency-related investigations Assist in the investigation of such cases across various police stations This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the fight against online fraud and help curb such offences effectively.
